With an enviable track record in the timely completion of construction projects, Ashfield Group are renowned for steering an efficient course to achieve a high-class finish. It’s therefore somewhat appropriate that we are sponsoring Karl Chamley, a dynamic young motorcycle racer competing in this year’s Thundersport GB Series.
Karl’s racing season started last month with Round 1 of Thundersport 500 Sportsman Class, held at Donington Park. It was Karl’s first outing on a bike in over six months but he overcame a degree of rustiness to put in a strong performance. In qualifying, he managed some tricky racing in wet conditions to secure 2nd place on the grid.
In the opening, Saturday race Karl assessed the grey skies and seemingly wet track conditions and took a gamble on wet tyres. Unfortunately, 80% of the track fully dried out, ruining a set of wet tyres, but he still managed to finish 5th. The next race was completely dry and Karl finished an impressive 2nd.
In the opening, Sunday race Karl beat his best-ever lap time and was rewarded with a 3rd place finish. On the final race of the weekend, he started extremely well before encountering a frustrating gearbox problem – the bike was jumping out of 5th and 6th gear, making his ride particularly hazardous on fast corners, but Karl still managed to finish in 4th place!
Founded in 2007, Thundersport GB is one of the UK’s fastest growing motorcycle racing clubs. A range of different classes provide variety for both the fans and the riders. Quantity and quality are both evident with large grids and a busy schedule. Round 2 of the Series is taking place at Oulton Park on the 21st and 22nd of April.
Ashfield Group are delighted to be sponsoring Karl. He showed some real skill and determination in overcoming some setbacks in Round 1, so we’re sure his performances will move up another gear when things go his way. No doubt we’ll see some even better results from Karl in the rest of the season!
