Barn conversions are admired and desired by property connoisseurs throughout the UK. They offer unique features and ooze rural charm to match their idyllic locations. Perfect for lovers of double-height spaces, they also offer scope for generous room proportions and bring ample natural light into the interiors.

Unfortunately, these results seldom come easily. Disused farm buildings are often in a deteriorated state, making their conversion notoriously difficult to get right. It’s a complex art and certainly not a task for the faint-hearted.

Ashfield Building Group are experts in barn conversions and our ability to meet their technical demands has made us a frequent choice to carry out rural projects across the North. The latest example is a collection of brick built barns in rural North Yorkshire, for which Wetherby based architects Wildblood Macdonald have secured planning permission to be transformed into 3 beautiful homes.

Comprising an area of land some 0.35ha in size, the site includes a variety of farm buildings and sheds. A team of highly regarded specialists will collaborate to breathe new life into these neglected spaces. Wildblood Macdonald, have designed an exceptional scheme of high-specification properties which Ashfield are developing in conjunction with Harrogate-based structural engineers, CAS Engineering, and Gainsborough-based mechanical Engineers, CJR Maintenance Solutions.

The three properties offer a range of two-storey layouts and configurations characterised by the fluidity of the space. Substantial open-plan dining kitchens lead through to spacious living areas and the bedrooms also provide generous dimensions.

Ashfield Building Group Director, Joel Ramsden, said:

“Barn conversions offer enormous potential, but many contractors and developers are wary of taking them on as they require a very exacting skillset. Ashfield are able to offer that skillset, backed by decades of experience in projects of this nature, so developments like this are always on our radar. It’s the kind of challenge that excites our team and we are looking forward to delivering something special.”

If you’ve ever stepped inside a newly completed barn conversion and marvelled at its blend of contemporary design and authentic rural character, you might not have appreciated the painstaking work required to make it happen. When Ashfield completes this project, we’re confident that the results will demonstrate how to make a success of this challenging specialism. When they are done well, barn conversions are extraordinary reward for all the effort.
